Filtration

Water quality is critical, not only for domestic use around the home but also for commercial applications such as sports turf, food and beverage, council supplies and agriculture. Think Water has a complete range of domestic and rural water filtration systems capable of filtering out harmful bacteria such as e-coli, and giardia, chemicals, chlorine, fluoride, metals, salts, tastes, and odours to ensure your home, farm, or commercial water supply is clean, safe and chemical free.

Ultraviolet (UV) Treatment

If you use rainwater, bore water or a surface water supply then Ultraviolet water purification is the most effective method for disinfecting bacteria from your water. Ultraviolet (UV) rays penetrate harmful pathogens in your home or farms water and destroy illness-causing microorganisms by attacking their genetic core (DNA). Disinfecting your water with ultraviolet light is simple, effective and environmentally safe. UV systems destroy 99.99% of harmful microorganisms and with the addition of filter treatment to your water supply prior to the UV purification can effectively remove all pathogens, sediment, tastes and odour from your water supply. We can design, install, and maintain an effective all-in -one system for your home or farm that will provide you with the security of a safe contaminate free water supply where required.

Water Softeners for Hard Water Treatment

While water is in the ground, it picks up soluble bits of whatever it passes through. While this can mean contamination that makes the water unfit to drink, in many cases it simply means that the water contains minerals found in the earth. Of these, calcium and magnesium are of particular importance because they affect the water's ability to function in our homes. These minerals make our water hard.

The effect of 'Hard Water' is while it does not impose any health risks from drinking it has the effect of scale buildup in appliances causing premature failure, iron staining issues, poor incoming pressure, cloudy glassware, soaps that don’t lather, and difficulty in washing. Water softeners are a non-electric system to correct hard water, through the process of iron exchange.

A water softener contains a resin bead bed loaded with sodium ions sourced from a concentrated brine solution. The hard water is passed over the resin beads attracting calcium and other minerals replacing them with sodium ions in the supply. Once the resin beads have reached maximum capacity, the system undertakes regeneration with a brine solution, flushing away the hardness and recharging the resin to begin the process again.

Think Water Canterbury can test your water for hardness, size a water softening unit most suitable for your home, and install, with minimal on-going maintenance other than periodic refills of softening salt.

The benefits of soft water

  1. Preserves your plumbing system
  2. Easier cleaning - less detergents required
  3. Cleaner clothes and dishes
  4. Longer lasting whiteware, dishwasher, and kettles
  5. Softer hair and smoother skin!

Reverse Osmosis

The process of reverse osmosis provides a filtration process for high purity water.Water passes through a reverse osmosis semi-permeable membrane rejecting impurities and flushing them down the drain. An effective system is capable of removing over 98% of dissolved impurities, heavy metals, salts, viruses, bacteria, cysts, fluoride & chloride, chlorine, nitrates, other chemicals, taste and odour. Pure clear water from your own water supply is then left for your own piece of mind.

Very effective for filtration and very common in salt removal however results in a reduced treated water supply which needs to be stored for use, and the process of reverse osmosis results in a high percentage of the water entering the system being flushed down the drain.

Common systems in New Zealand are under-bench units for drinking water in a kitchen or whole house fully automated systems typically used in rural settings where water supply is prone to contamination due to flooding for example. However not as effective for removing bacteria as a UV system which is close to 100% and regarded as the best system for effective bacteria removal.
